Healthcare Technology and News: Corventis Receives FDA Clearance for NUVANT MCT System

Corventis, a dealer in wireless cardiovascular solutions, announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration, or “FDA,” has approved the company’s NUVANT Mobile Cardiac Telemetry, or “MCT,” System. In addition, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or “CMS,” has recognized Conventis’s Monitoring Center as an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility, or “IDTF.”

Corventis has also got approval to bill for services provided to patients with Medicare and several commercial insurers. The company has stated that these approvals pave the way for the NUVANT MCT System to be launched in United States.

Leslie Saxon, chief of cardiology division in Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, said that Corventis has taken the arrhythmia monitoring to the next level by introducing the NUVANT MCT System.

An arrhythmia is an abnormality or disturbance in the rate or rhythm of a person's heartbeat. Arrhythmia monitoring refers to tests physicians use to identify the type and the cause of irregular heart rhythms. Many arrhythmias occur infrequently, so to record the heart's electrical activity under real-world conditions, physicians use continuous monitor recording, also called ambulatory electrocardiography.

Using The NUVANT MCT System advanced features, patients can have high quality monitoring of arrhythmias by producing number of electrocardiogram, or “ECG,” reports. This system uses advanced algorithms and multi-sensor capabilities of the PiiX wearable platform to enable continuous monitoring for a broad set of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, as well as patient falls that may be associated with arrhythmias.

All ECGs are promptly transmitted to the Corventis Monitoring Center via the wireless-enabled zLink, for review and response by trained cardio graphic technicians. Physicians receive prompt notification of urgent events as well as actionable information in the form of Episode Reports, Daily Reports and End of Use Reports via fax, email. Physicians will be able to help patients remotely by processing these prompts.

Maninder S. Bedi, director of cardiac electrophysiology at key centers in Pennsylvania and Ohio including Washington Hospital has stated that NUVANT MCT System will attract patients as it is very easy to use.

The American Heart Association has declared that 835,000 Americans are discharged from hospital care with cardiac arrhythmia diagnoses each year. Every year there are more than 2.2 million Americans who experience atrial fibrillation which leads to heart stroke.

Ed Manicka, president and CEO of Corventis, has said that these approvals are milestone in their company’s history and an endorsement of their platform’s capabilities. They are looking forward to promote this product to clinicians in the United States.
