Healthcare Technology and News: InnerWireless Now Supports Philips' IntelliVue Smart-Hopping Wireless Telemetry Solution

InnerWireless has announced compatibility between its Horizon Distributed Antenna System (DAS) and Philips’ family of IntelliVue Telemetry System featuring Smart-hopping technology.

The company’s support for Philips’ Smart-hopping 2.4 GHz solution provides hospitals with additional choices for delivering hospital-wide medical telemetry, said company officials.

In a release, Ed Cantwell, president, CEO and chairman at InnerWireless, noted that as more healthcare facilities look to wireless to help them increase quality and operate more efficiently and productively, the capability to provide medical telemetry and portable monitoring everywhere in the hospital is a compelling proposition.

“InnerWireless believes that our relationship with Philips allows us to optimize our solutions as the healthcare industry’s appetite for wireless solutions continues to grow, and caregivers benefit from the company’s unique and highly flexible converged wireless architecture,” he added.

The compatibility of IntelliVue Smart-hopping with InnerWireless’ Converged Wireless Platform has provided a “powerful” combination for hospitals. The compatibility enables the hospitals to leverage their investment in the InnerWireless DAS and deliver Philips wireless medical telemetry everywhere in the facility, said company officials.

With InnerWireless converged wireless platform, hospitals can “holistically” manage their wireless environment and minimize the number of single purpose wireless networks, said company officials.

Horizon supports Philips’ IntelliVue Smart-hopping solutions advanced features, including patented technology. This technology maintains seamless connections between the central station and telemetry and bedside monitoring devices to provide uninterrupted patient care, said company officials.

Working together with Philips, InnerWireless is said to be the first DAS vendor to successfully integrate and deploy the Philips medical telemetry application on a DAS.

InnerWireless’ layered spectrum-assignment technology and segment-based coverage provides integration for lower-powered radio sources, such as the Philips 2.4 IntelliVue telemetry solution.

Company officials said that the InnerWireless Horizon Converged Wireless Platform can deliver virtually every wireless service and supports the broad spectrum of wide-area and local-area wireless services such as 3G and 4G cellular, 802.11 a/b/g/n, whole-house multi-frequency medical telemetry, and more.
