Healthcare Technology and News: Inventive Labs Implements Follow-up Solution for COPDGene Study

Inventive Labs, a provider of telephony software and application services, reportedly announced the successful implementation of a Web and telephone-based longitudinal follow-up solution for the COPDGene Study, which investigates the underlying genetic factors of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Powered by Inventive Labs' Voice Elements software, the follow-up solution automates the initial and quarterly follow-up calls to participants, enabling them to respond to study questions by either touch tone or their voice, using speech recognition, company officials said.

Voice Elements is an application development toolkit designed for companies needing to provide telephony-based products or services

The follow-up software integrates a Web survey, in addition to the telephone survey, and streamlines data gathering and follow-up management. It gathers data for willing participants and informs the COPDGene Study if a participant is unreachable or unwilling to continue participation.

Coordinators of the program used to call participants which, according to company sources, ‘ate up’ regional study resources.

Inventive Labs’ follow-up solution helps the COPDGene study stay focused on advancing the treatment options and cure strategies for COPD, James D. Crapo, co-founder of the COPDGene study, said.

The customized software and service encompasses various forms of communication and technology that increase the chances of Study participation, Crapo said.

“We were pleased to apply our broad services offerings to the successful deployment of the COPDGene study project,” said Ron Tanner, president of Inventive Labs, in a statement. “Bringing telephony, IVR, speech recognition and web technology together highlights how well-constructed automation can provide enormous benefits to organizations such as COPDGene.”

Earlier this year, Inventive Labs announced partnership with Cepstral, a text-to-speech technology company, to integrate Cepstral's TTS software on Voice Elements, HealthTechZone reported. This helps solution providers easily add TTS for dynamic prompts and information delivery to users interfacing with telephone-based solutions built on voice elements, company officials said.
