Looking to support many of its current and future mobility initiatives, the Montreal Jewish General Hospital has opted for
Motorola’s wireless LAN (WLAN) solution.
Providing technology-based solutions for hospitals has become a booming business for companies as hospitals look to technology to solve many of their problems. Companies such as Motorola and many others are providing technologies such as voice over IP (VoIP), point-of-care and real-time location applications to monitor parents as well as to improve the level of efficiency and patient care in the hospital.
The WLAN solution deployed at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital makes use of Motorola’s RFS7000 wireless switches and AP300 access ports. This allows the hospital staff to always be in contact with patients and staff. The nurses in the hospital will now have advanced staff communications on IP phones and data applications at the bedside and connectivity for smart infusion pumps.

Apart from improving the hospital’s efficiency, the Motorola solution also allows the hospital to conform to the regulatory standards in wireless communications. Motorola AirDefense wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) helps the hospital meet regulatory requirements for wireless security and monitor ongoing performance. The wireless network is also integrated with an active RFID asset management solution from AeroScout. This lets the hospital gain an accurate location tracking and management of critical medical equipment.
Recently, the company
received 2008 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award, which was presented by
INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine for its wi4 WiMAX USBw 100 adaptor. Being the first WiMAX USB adaptor of Motorola, this device was rolled-out to the market in September 2008.
