Seattle Children's Hospital Receives the 2011 AMDIS Awards

Seattle Children's Hospital has been recognized with the 2011 AMDIS Awards for its strategic use of cloud and zero client information technology. The awards were presented at the 20th annual AMDIS Physician-Computer Connection Symposium on July 13, 2011 in Ojai, Calif.

The AMDIS Awards honors individuals or organizations for successful application of information systems/technology in the practice of medicine.

To speed caregiver access to patient data throughout the hospital, add efficiencies for staff and improve the delivery of care, Seattle Children's turned to the Wyse Xenith zero client as a replacement to PCs.

Wyse, the major player in cloud client computing has been a crucial partner in helping Seattle Children's simplify its IT infrastructure.

In a press release, Wes Wright, vice president and chief technology officer at Seattle Children's, said: “Over the next five years, we anticipate that by using Wyse Xenith, in lieu of legacy hardware we'll save over $6 million in hardware and energy costs, as well as thousands of hours in staff time."

"Removing waste from our systems and processes is a component of our ongoing Continuous Performance Improvement philosophy and improvement approach, which enable us to dedicate more of our valuable resources to delivering the best care possible to patients and families -- our number one job. Every minute we can save of staff time and every dollar we can save directly leads to better care."

Seattle Children's has deployed a desktop virtualization solution leveraging Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp in concert with approximately 3,000 Wyse Xenith zero clients.

This has helped it to accelerate system logins from several minutes to just 20 seconds and also save staff time and improve patient interactions.

"Seattle Children's continues to demonstrate leadership and strategic vision when it comes to IT. Wyse is proud to be a key partner in the hospital's efforts to set a high-level of standard for healthcare. Congratulations to Seattle Children's for this well-deserved recognition," said Maryam Alexandrian, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Channels at Wyse Technology.

In related news, Wyse PocketCloud, the premier obile cloud app for iOS and Android, has won the Mobile Merit Award for Best Overall Mobile App in the Enterprise Apps category.
