Bon Secours Health System to Deploy PremierConnect Enterprise

The ability to analyze vast amounts of data is giving organizations valuable insights into how they can improve the delivery of the products and services they offer to their customers. Big data analytics can be used by organizations of all sizes, but its usefulness is more appreciated by large enterprises that have to crunch massive amounts of data across many different operations covering multiple locations and thousands of employees and customers. Bon Secours Health System, Inc. (BSHSI), a $3.4 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system in Marriottsville, Md., is going to deploy the PremierConnect Enterprise cloud-based data warehouse and business intelligence platform in order to use its resources more efficiently.

The BSHSI organization owns, manages or joint ventures 19 acute care, 5 long term care, 4 assisted living, 6 retirement communities/senior housing, 14 home care and hospice services, and other facilities. The facilities are located primarily on the East Coast across six states and it employs more than 22,000 caregivers. With so many physical and human assets, BSHSI is looking to use the Premier, Inc.'s enterprise-wide data warehouse and business intelligence platform by leveraging the integrated data and advanced analytics solutions it provides.

The collaboration between the two organizations was established more than two decades ago and BSHSI has been using Premier's suite of quality, safety, labor and supply chain applications for that long. With PremierConnect Enterprise it is looking to access, integrate and interpret its clinical, financial and operational data to produce actionable predictive and prescriptive analytics.

"This partnership is a key step in helping us predict community needs. It is a major part of our strategy to make care more affordable through clinical transformation. We are excited about what this next step with Premier can bring to our providers," said Marlon Priest, MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer at BSHSI.

The challenge BSHSI and other organizations face as more machines, devices and multiple technologies continue to be integrated is bringing all these platforms together to exchange information with each other with a holistic approach. Premier creates a picture of all the data an organization is aggregating every second of the day so it can be used effectively to identify problems, create innovative solutions and find value.

PremierConnect Enterprise delivers:

  • A cloud-based data warehouse and business intelligence platform integrating big data from disparate systems.
  • Acquisition, standardization, and integration of population health, claims and other data from electronic health records, insurance databases, supply chain systems and other sources to give providers  trusted, analysis-ready information.
  • Enterprise insights – operational and population health solutions powered by integrated data to help providers transition to value-based care models, including accountable care organizations (ACOs).
  • Transformation services with dedicated Premier developers, analysts and other experts that help providers build advanced analytics solutions and establish the operational and technical agility needed to respond to change.

"Health systems today need much more than a single-point solution or even a multi-point solution focused on just one area of their business. They are demanding an integrated approach that spans the scope of their care practices," said Susan DeVore, Premier President and CEO.
