Sonitor Technologies Expands Operations in the US

Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) technology has many applications across different industries, but the healthcare industry is responsible for driving the growth in this market. Healthcare organizations use RTLS in order to manage the assets and locate the hundreds if not thousands of equipment within one facility. This includes wheelchairs, oxygen cylinders, infusion pumps, hospital beds and many others. Additionally the technology is used to monitor employees for organizing hospital management systems.

As a globally recognized provider of RTLS technology, Sonitor is moving its headquarters to Stamford, Connecticut as well as appointing Anne M. Bugge as the company's technologies president and chief executive officer for the Americas. The remaining operations of the company including research and development will continue in Oslo, Norway.

The expansion of its sales and service operations is being driven by the increased adoption of RTLS in the healthcare industry in the United States. According to a report by Research and Markets, the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38.17 percent over five year period between 2013 and 2018.

Ms. Bugge is a medical technology company veteran with 20 years of experience in the industry with administrative, marketing and executive positions. Her leadership positions as member of executive teams in healthcare technology companies such as ATL Ultrasound and SonoSite is responsible for increasing shareholder value and propelling the companies into market leaders.

"This move is important for the company since the largest and fastest growing RTLS market is in the United States. Sonitor needs to be ever more close to the U.S. hospital market and responsive to our growing customer base and partners here. By expanding our talented team and continuing to deliver the most advanced RTLS technology solutions to help hospitals reduce operating costs and improve patient security and safety, the company is positioned for rapid and sustainable growth," said Bugge.

The Sonitor High Definition UltrasoundTM technology with Wi-Fi, low frequency RF and other sensory technologies have advanced features including being able to register humidity, motion, temperature and more with increased accuracy and usability.

The Sonitor SenseTM, a new platform introduced in February of 2013, is designed to provide a comprehensive RTLS solution by addressing the needs in home care, clinics as well as large multi-campus healthcare facilities with support for multiple applications.

The benefits of this platform include:

  • Coarse level positioning using Wi-Fi, room level accuracy and True-Bay-Level positioning using ultrasound
  • Low Frequency RF complementing ultrasound for low latency application
  • Battery powered 100 percent wire-free for ease of installation and rapid deployment or wired
  • Tag update rates for low latency application with intelligent tags that adapt to their environment
  • Uniquely scalable system that accommodates installations of any size with an open integration platform connected to large number of solution providers

Once the system is in place organizations will be able to track and locate individual patients, needed staff, room usage, patient medications and procedures, thus introducing new levels of efficiency across the board.
