Dublin Hospital Deploys Kronos SMART Workforce Management Solution

Mount Carmel Hospital, located in Dublin, announced that it has deployed the Kronos SMART workforce management solution. This solution will enable the hospital to efficiently staff all wards, operating rooms, and outpatient facilities.

With complex staffing and scheduling involved in running a hospital, this will, no doubt, come as a relief to the administrators. Staff members will have an easier time managing their schedule, as they will be able to access SMART remotely to perform such tasks as requesting a shift change, booking vacation time, and requesting additional shifts. The patients, too, will benefit from this solution, as it should help keep from a particular wing or area ever being short-staffed, which can be incredibly stressful—needing care and being unable to attain it can not only be annoying or painful, it can also be dangerous.

Dr. Nigel McCarley, the chief operating officer of Mount Carmel Hospital, calls the results of the Kronos SMART solution “impressive.” In a recent statement, he explained, “The solution applies a logical methodology to calculating staffing requirements and its tracking and identification of roster trends over any given period of time is highly effective. The beauty of SMART also lies in its total transparency as it is fair to everyone and is easily understood by nurses and non-clinicians alike. We consider it a vital part of our overall good governance framework.”

Tristan Spencer, the director of SMART at Kronos, noted that automating rosters brings “huge” advantages to healthcare environments. With the SMART solution, he predicts, Mount Carmel will “achieve greater efficiencies and radically transform the culture of the hospital.” Spencer attributes the success of the system to the ability to plan ahead, which he says gives healthcare providers a “competitive advantage.”

The number of people involved in keeping a hospital sufficiently staffed can be overwhelming, but this solution from Kronos will make it easier.
