For children confined to a hospital bed, sometimes it only takes a cuddly teddy bear or colorful card to brighten their day. Knowing that firsthand, Miami Children’s Hospital has taken the initiative to enhance its care services, making these small gestures more accessible to families through their smartphones.
Marking an industry-first for pediatric medical care, Miami Children’s Hospital today announced it has adopted the AnyPresence solution to improve its mobile app development. The South Florida specialty hospital has leveraged the enterprise backend-as-a-service (BaaS) platform to update its Fit4KidsCare app, as well as brainstorm plans to deploy new ones.
The new and improved Fit4KidsCare now offers families the ability to order gift shop items and have them delivered to a patient’s room directly from a mobile device. Thanks to the AnyPresence server, the app also includes a Web-based administrative portal, from which hospital staff can manage the product catalog, process orders, send automated e-mail notifications and perform HIPAA-compliant patient lookups against a Cerner EMER system.
"Flexibility and the ability to leverage both HTML5 and native iOS code was paramount in the development of our Fit4KidsCare app," Ed Martinez, CIO at Miami Children's Hospital, said in a statement. "With its unique architecture and non-proprietary run-time components, the AnyPresence platform provided the flexibility required to implement this project, while establishing the capability to implement additional apps on our roadmap to continuously improve patient engagement."
Miami Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children. In other recent news the hospital also announced plans to be the first healthcare provider to enlist PatientPoint to facilitate clinical trial recruitment and enrollment.
