EnGenius Announces Upgrade To Its DuraFon Pro Line Of Handsets

Communication in the healthcare field is one of those features that is often overlooked when talking about technological advances. People assume that all the communications needs are being met because people the medical field is always at the cutting edge of the technological field, or aren’t they?

The fact of the matter is, few companies are spending the time and effort to make communication that much better, take for instance EnGenius.

One step that EnGenius has taken is to improve the capabilities of its existing DuraFon PRO cordless phone handsets, which are being used to support a nurse call system that can always be upgraded, even if it is just a little bit.

While these handsets have already been recognized as some of the most reliable when it comes to long range use the company has now announced that they have added a new feature known as TAP, to those already well known products.

The TAP features allow users to send text messages to the DuraFon PRO handsets. This is done using the Telelocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP) system. This program allows users to send text messages to one particular handset or to every handset in the system. This can be something where a single nurse is called to a room, or it can actually be used as an emergency alert system when it is sent to everyone.

This feature also means that there is less equipment needed to be carried by the employees using this system. Pagers and handsets are no longer needed to both be carried because the DuraFons are basically both of those devices in one neat little package.

While EnGenius is currently focusing on the healthcare industry, it’s clear they see the DuraFon Pro with TAP to be useful in other fields as well.

Alex Wei, the product manager for EnGenius recently talked about the company’s long range goals in a release saying, “The ability to send text messages to any or all of the deployed handsets opens up a world of efficiency-enhancing applications in retail, warehouses, hospitality, and other industries. Also, the ability to silently broadcast text messages to a single handset or simultaneously to multiple cordless handsets reduces overhead paging in retail stores and can enhance security measures such as rapidly transmitting Code Adam alerts in retail stores or broadcasting urgent messages to administrators on school campuses.”
