The healthcare industry has been adopting and migrating to more and more cloud solutions in an attempt to meet an increasing number of IT challenges. Cloud computing consultants at CoreMatrix said they have observed a rapidly increasing number of healthcare companies looking to the cloud to comply with government mandates and solve complex IT dilemmas.
Healthcare providers of all sizes are now using electronic health records (EHRs) thanks to government incentives and mandates. CoreMatrix observes that this has created a massive need for these organizations to manage major volumes of data as well as a need to leverage high levels of expertise. Managed cloud solutions can help with both of these needs.
“Many healthcare executives traditionally believed that keeping medical records behind the firewall was the safest choice, but this is no longer the case,” said Paul Nix, co-founder of CoreMatrix. “Cloud providers must conform to HIPAA regulations, and many cloud providers specialize in implementing cloud configurations to meet the needs of healthcare.”
Nix said that his company has observed that many concerns customers have about data security and patient privacy have been allayed after implementing cloud solutions. The cloud also offers a cost effective and secure way to integrate disparate healthcare systems, which enables physicians to share patient data as well as coordinate care.
He added that on-demand computing, scalable storage and other benefits of the cloud are beneficial to healthcare organizations, who find that their existing IT resources are taxed and burdened by increasing demands. And as the healthcare industry adopts social and mobile technologies to interface with patients and facilitate patient/provider communication, the cloud will play an even larger role in the sector.
