Startup FuzeBox Selling High-Definition Video Conferencing Solution for the Hearing Impaired

While video conferencing solutions are used by a number of hearing-impaired people to communicate, the conventional wisdom is that most solutions lack the kind of quality and definition required for signing and lip reading.

This may be about to change with the launch of a product by a particular startup company.

The company, San Francisco-based FuzeBox, is already selling high-definition video-conferencing applications to schools and other organizations for the hearing impaired.

“There were no virtual classroom for the hearing impaired,” FuzeBox CEO and founder Jeff Cavins recently told Forbes. “They never had the luxury of virtual classrooms and can’t use the internet the way other people can.

FuzeBox’s solution can host meetings of up to 12 people, and allows users to present additional video, photos and presentations. Attendants can watch, ask questions or chat in an inclusive instant messaging system. The product is available in four variations: Fuze Share, Fuze Pro, Fuze Business and Fuze Enterprise, depending on an individual or an organization’s needs.

Users pay on either a monthly or an annual basis, and can use the solution on desktop or laptop computers, smartphones or tablets.

While the company sells heavily into the education market, the product has become popular with telemedicine players such as Honeywell and the Department of Veteran Affairs to allow hearing-impaired patients to communicate with healthcare professionals via video conferencing.

FuzeBox offers significant discounts to customers in the education and not-for-profit industries.

Users of the solution say it saves time and money, and eliminates the need for personnel, educators or students to travel to face-to-face meetings – often a necessity for hearing impaired people.
