Abtran is Lead Participant at UCC Healthcare Innovation Hub

Abtran, the largest indigenous business process outsourcer (BPO) in the Irish market, has been named a lead participant in the newly established National Healthcare Hub located at UCC, University College Cork in Cork.

A government-driven collaboration between the health system and commercial enterprises, the Healthcare Innovation Hub aims at developing and aiding commercialization of new healthcare products, services, technologies and startups. This project will bring together six Irish healthcare companies with the health system and academia so that the companies can move faster on developing solutions, products and services.

The companies would be provided office space, dedicated contact points and access to the hospital system in Cork.

Michael Fitzgerald, chief executive officer at Abtran, said they had identified the healthcare sector as a key market where they can leverage their service expertise for patients. He added that they saw the opportunity to provide a more customer-focused service to patients in the same way they do for their clients across the public and private sectors.

The idea of this new healthcare project is to enable healthcare companies in delivering commercial products and services more quickly. With access to health services, the companies will be able to test products in a real-life environment. The health service of Ireland will thus become more efficient as the HSE and hospitals will engage and participate with companies that create solutions.

The project is based on international models, such as the North Carolina Research Triangle aims at progressing healthcare technologies. Six companies comprise the hub, including Abtran, which is working on a GP referral system for the hospitals. The system will reduce costs, manage waiting lists efficiently and improve patient care.

The other companies are Arann Healthcare, Helix Health, Radisens Diagnostics, Rigney Dolphin and Sláinte Healthcare.

Founded in 1997, Abtran is headquartered in Cork and employs more than 1,000 staff across multiple business sites. Abtran is currently focused firmly on mutually beneficial and strategic partnerships with major corporate and government clients in domestic and international markets.

Abtran's offerings include centralized service solutions across the public and private sectors. The company has a research-driven and commercially orientated approach to the delivery of consumer services.
