GammaTech's New A22i All-In-One PC Focuses on Healthcare

With the healthcare industry experiencing rapid gains even in an economy posing constant challenges for businesses, it's only reasonable that businesses should be visibly bringing out technology specifically geared for this growing sector. Earlier this week, GammaTech of Fremont, CA joined the market in earnest by showing off its first-ever all-in-one PC geared toward the healthcare sector, the GammaTech A22i.

The A22i offers up an array of features that make it very healthcare friendly, like the Intel Rapid Start Technology that lets it boot in just five seconds, VESA mounting for use on medical carts, and a built-in handle for when it needs to move from place to place. That movement is in turn helped by the fact that the whole system, monitor and all, weighs just 10.65 pounds.

The A22i also offers low power consumption, which in turn allows it to run off battery power, an unusual feature that improves its portability still further. That low power consumption is powering a fairly robust hardware package besides, as the whole system includes an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, along with Intel Mobile HM7x chipset, an internal mSATA storage system--it's said to rival solid state drive performance, but at a lower cost--and offer up as much as 8GB of DDR3 RAM. The A22i also packs in a full HD display--1920 x 1080 resolution--integrated with the device itself, along with a two megapixel web camera, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and card reader slots that cover SD, Sony, and MultiMedia flash cards. It even can offer up 3D graphics via its Intel HD Graphics system.

The A22i is currently available for ordering, though resellers and the GammaTech website won't be making it available until August, the likely ship date. It will retail for $1,499, and includes a standard two year warranty as well as customization options to meet customers' individual needs.

GammaTech has previously won awards in both the 2010 and 2011 Government Security News' Homeland Security Awards competition in the Best Rugged Computers category, making the A22i an entrant well worth considering.

The all-in-one PC market in general has been picking up steam lately, with more models emerging with a focus on efficiency and comparatively low space use. Seeing an all-in-one PC geared toward a specific industry like healthcare, especially one with such specific needs, is a novel move to say the least. Since the A22i certainly looks like it can handle healthcare industry professionals' needs as well as be an unusual move that makes this a highly noteworthy entry in a market that's approaching a glutted status.
