Healthcare Technology and News: CoActiv EXAM-PACS Selected by ProHealth

CoActiv EXAM-PACS has been selected by ProHealth Physicians, the largest primary care practice group in CT to manage all medical images across its 75 offices.

CoActiv Medical is a healthcare software and IT systems provider offering a full line of PACS, digital image and data storage services, and related solutions for hospitals, imaging facilities and medical practices of all sizes.

ProHealth selected CoActiv mainly because it offered an extremely robust solution for an affordable price, the company has stated. To ensure that installation and training would be completed in a very short timeframe, the company was also willing to launch the installation immediately and to work with the practice closely. The company created EHR and dictation customizations ProHealth was looking for.

“We wanted our PACS to interface directly with our Allscripts electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems so that radiology reports could move directly into the EHR without involving a RIS,” stated Norm Robillard, director of Diagnostic Imaging Services for ProHealth, in a press release. “That also meant the system would have to be configured to enable radiologists to dictate directly into the PACS itself.”

ProHealth’s high speed wide-area network is now ready to stream images from all exam rooms stream directly to its radiology service providers. Reports are similarly returned quickly and easily to appropriate ProHealth physicians and directly populate the patient’s electronic health record. Duplicating data in four different locations for safety and business continuity, all exams are stored in CoActiv’s cloud-based EXAM-VAULT QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVE.

Also, sonographers connect ultrasound devices and computers directly and securely into the network and conduct exams as if they were working at a ProHealth imaging site in mobile locations.

Recently, CoActiv announced a new EXAM-PACS touch screen image viewing for the recently announced Apple iPad large-screen digital viewing and communications device. Based on the existing EXAM-PACS iPhone image viewing system incorporated in its orthopedic and other PACS solutions, CoActiv Medical said the new iPad system will support bi-directional data communication between a PACS and any iPad using the new device's built-in WiFi capabilities.
