Red River and Rubbermaid Partner to Offer Integration of Medical Carts to Hospitals

Technology is part of just about every healthcare product or process out there today: implantable devices, point-of-care bedside computers, automated call buttons, tablet PCs that can use and share medical information between disparate, remote locations, even digital X-Ray images physicians can see from their smartphones.

But now a new partnership between Red River, a provider of IT products and services to government and healthcare sectors, and Rubbermaid Medical Solutions (RMS), a provider of point-of-care computing solutions for healthcare facilities, have announced they will work together to offer advanced IT integration of medical carts, according to a press release posted at businesswire.com.

Rubbermaid has a long history of providing bedside medical equipment but now, working with Red River, Rubbermaid now configured IT that can be integrated into the secure technology infrastructure of hospital or medical facilities, according to the press release.

Configured IT is setting up systems for specific applications, according to thefreedictionary.com.

With this new technology, medical carts can now be linked to real-time location systems using wireless networks, VOIP, and even switching and routing systems, to track their whereabouts, according to the press release, ensuring safety of patients, security and a more effective delivery of medical care.

In some cases, the press release notes, Red River had already established the medical facilities’ IT infrastructure, and the medical carts are now a mobile addition to that infrastructure.

In the past, battery-operated medical carts were “difficult to service, offered poor battery performance, protracted charge times and high replacement costs,” according to motioncomuting.com.

Red River says in the release that it has nearly 100 implementations completed.

“Red River views this expansion into health care as a natural extension of what we have delivered in the government sector so successfully for years,” said Rick Bolduc, chief executive officer for Red River, in the press release. “It’s enormously satisfying to be able to bring our IT expertise to the delivery of high-quality patient care.”
